CHANDIGARH, NOV 25: At 17, he got a licence made for riding two-wheelers without gears, but meticulously erased the vital word "without". The alleged tampering went undetected ..... till he appeared before the court today.The offence surfaced when Parwinder Singh of Phase IX S.A.S. Nagar appeared before UT Additional CJM B.C. Gupta after being challaned for riding on the wrong side and for not carrying his driver's licence on September 29.
The alert ACJM realised that the licence produced by the accused today could not be valid for riding geared vehicles as it was issued on November 9, 1992, while his date of birth was November 25, 1975 a gap of 17 years.
Referring the matter to the SHO of Police Station Central for taking action, the ACJM observed: "The accused in order to deceive the government as well as the court, erased the word `out' so that the licence could be used for driving a motorcycle or scooter with gears only".
