Jail staffers held for undertrial's murder

NAGPUR, Nov 27: Five jail personnel, including a deputy superintendent of prisons, were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of an undertrial at Nagpur Central Jail two months ago. They were later produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate P N Mehta who remanded them to magisterial custody till December 10.Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Rajendra Dhamne, guards Revnath Hukare, Purushatam Moon, Gopalsingh Thakur and Ganesh are to face charges of murder and other offences under the Indian Penal Code, according to police. They allegedly thrashed Anil Kosare, 30, arrested in connection with his wife's murder. He was allegedly beaten to death in a barrack of the jail in the early hours of September 26 last. Kosare was taken to the Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to internal injuries. The post-mortem and autopsy had confirmed death due to beating.
