Pre-written answer-sheets distributed at railway exam

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, December 1: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination held on November 29 has come under a cloud following the seizure of six pre-written answer-sheets from a centre in Kalyan. Minister of State of Railways Ram Naik has already instituted an inquiry by the Vigilance Committee into the matter.

Speaking to Express Newsline over the phone from Delhi today Naik said a re-examination at the centre would be considered after receiving the inquiry report.

Anil Rokade, a candidate who appeared for the examination with 3,500 others at the National Urdu High School had brought the matter to the minister's notice. Rokade told Express Newsline that he got suspicious when he saw the invigilator, Milind B Bitiwitkar, handing out a different set of answersheets to some students. ``When one of these students opened the book I saw that it was all written over. I immediately raised an objection.''

However, instead of supporting him the invigilators from the adjoining rooms got together and beganpressurising him to keep quiet. ``They offered to allow me to write my paper for about an hour after everybody had left,'' Rokade said and added that they even offered to write the paper for him.

Rokade along with 35 other students then left the examination hall and lodged a written complaint with the supervisor. ``When we told him that we intended to report the matter to Naik, he swung into action and seized six pre-written answer-sheets,'' said Rokade.

He, however, suspects that there's a much bigger organised group managing these activities.

``A lot of my friends in other centres told me that there was similar copying going on there too, but none of them had the courage to come forward and make complaints fearing the consequences.''
