HUBLI, DEC 1: Vijayanand Sankeshwar, BJP MP, has quit his Lok Sabha seat and has decided to boycott the Parliament, because he says, party leaders and its government are humiliating and neglecting him.He said many other MPs were facing a similar situation.
He told reporters here on Tuesday that he resigned his Parliament membership in August and his letter of resignation addressed to Speaker G M C Balayogi was with party president Khushbhau Thakre since then.
He said he had later written to State party president B S Yediyurappa to follow up the matter but neither of them bothered to reply.
Sankeshwar said the main reason for his resignation -- apart from being sidelined in the party -- was the shifting of the railway zonal office from Hubli to Bangalore.
The zonal office issue had been part of the election campaign of the BJP during the Parliament elections and he felt the issue played a major role in his election. He said he had taken up the zonal office issue with the authorities concernedimmediately after assuming office and was ignored by the ministers. Although he tried to convince Railway Minister Nitish Kumar, who he said agreed with him, the issue did not come before the Cabinet. Hurt, he submitted his resignation along with a letter to Thakre. In the letter, he said, ``I prefer giving up the membership of the Lok Sabha for this non-fulfillment of this genuine demand of North Karnataka. If the demand is not met, the credibility of our party is at stake. ``Elections are scheduled in a short period for the state Assembly at Karnataka and in these circumstances we have been facing a lot of criticism for non-fulfillment of this demand. If this demand is not met by our Government, I will have to take moral responsibility.'' When this letter evoked no response, he wrote to Yediyurappa on November 13, saying that he could not understand the delay or lack of response, ``I have decided not to attend the winter session of the Parliament unless some positive and specific action is taken by ourgovernment in this matter.''
``I am not a politician. I have no godfathers in the party, that is why I am ignored. If they ignore me personally and never give me my rights, I don't mind. But they are also ignoring the promises on which we got (ourselves) elected.''
He said he, like many others, was not given suitable accommodation in Delhi despite being a Parliament member and such indignities were being suffered silently by most BJP MPs who, he said, come into picture only during votes of confidence when the number is crucial.
