Irregularities found in M Ed results

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Dec 1: The three-member committee formed to look into the ongoing tussle between the dean and the head of Education and Psychology has submitted its report to M S University Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane, concluding that there were inaccuracies in the results of the three students who ``failed'' in M Ed examination.

The committee has concluded that chairman of the examination committee and head of the department D Goel did not brief the committee members on the M Ed exam passing grade. Hence candidates performing poorly were also awarded B-negative (the higher grade) during evaluation.

Regarding B Ed admissions, the committee said that the results of the entrance test were declared later than usual, but no valid reasons were submitted by the chairman of the committee and head of the department for the same.

According to the committee, the head did not pay proper attention before finalising the admissions. It also said that if the admission committee had been involved in the whole procedure, then such bunglings could have been avoided. Goel was also accused of lodging the external examiners at his own place though accommodation had been provided for them at the guest house. Eye-witnesses also reported seeing the examiners doing the evaluations in his house.

The committee, comprising Cassim Unia, Jayshree Mehta and Neela Desai, called upon faculty dean Sneha Joshi, Goel, and faculty members V D Mochi, S N Desai, N A Shelat, N Pradhan, R Kothari, V D Thomas and I D Bhatt during the course of the investigation When contacted, Kane said that he had already received the report and would ask for the previous results of the three students before the annual convocation of the university was held.

Maintaining that he was aware of the shortcomings of both the head and the dean of the faculty, Kane said since he could not oust them from their positions, he would definitely take a stern decision. ``My action will definitely convey a message to other teachers in the faculty for whom students' careers may have been affected'', said Kane.
