Implementation of revised scales sought
A delegation of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) today met the education secretary, UT Administration and demanded early implementation of the revised grades. According to the president of the Chandigarh council of the PCCTU, Rabinder Nath Sharma, they have also demanded release of advance increments to those who possess Ph.D. and M.Phil degrees as recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

KU fellowship for Dr Naresh
Dr Naresh, who holds the Bhai Vir Singh Chair for Modern literature at Punjab University, has been offered fellowship in Hindi by Kurukshetra University. According to an official statement released by the university, Dr Naresh is currently a visiting fellow in Urdu at Punjabi University, Patiala.

LPG inspection begins
The mandatory inspection of LPG installations for the consumers listed with M/S Super Gas Services has started today. For this purpose, expert mechanics will visit the houses of the consumers, who have been advised to check the identity cards of the mechanics.

Lifting of ban on promotions sought
The ban on promotions by the Punjab government has invoked resentment among general category employees. In a press release, the president of the Punjab State General Category Welfare Federation, Prabhjit Singh demanded that this ban be lifted immediately and promotions be given to the employees on the basis of Janjua's judgment.

Three British nationals arrested
The City police have arrested three British nationals, Samuel James Phillips, Tobias Slex and Alexander Daniel from a hotel in Sector 22. While 100 gm charas was reportedly recovered from the possession of Phillips, the other two were in the possession of a knife, police said. Separate cases have been registered.

Long-term housing loans in the offing
Maharishi Housing Finance Corporation Limited is in the process of extending long-term loans to individuals for constructing houses, payable in 40 years of equal instalment. The company is operating 12 branch offices in different parts of the country. Company MD S.R. Sinha told mediapersons that this Dream House Scheme would be launched on January 12, the date of birth day of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The corporate loans have been approved by Central Board of Direct Taxes under Section 36-1 (VIII) of Income Tax Act.
