Niranjan Bhatt takes Dastur into semis

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Dec 1: A combined effort by bowler Niranjan Bhatt and batsman Shreyas Hegde enabled Dastur Boys High School to defeat Choksey High School by seven wickets and enter the semi-final of the Pudumjee Shield Seniors Inter-School limited overs cricket tournament at the SSPMS ground.

Set to score 162 for a win, Dastur reached the target in 28 overs.

A fine bowling spell by Dastur School's Niranjan Bhatt, who took five wickets in 4.4 overs at the cost of only 24 runs, curtailed the Choksey batsmen to 161 in 34.4 overs. Niranjan's spell also included a hat-trick.

Only five batsmen managed to reach double figures. While opener Pratik Patel stood firm at one end with a brilliant 48, the only other batsmen to make a respectable score were Aatish Zulup (21) and Nilesh Shah (20). Nilesh Solanki was the other successful bowler for Dastur, scalping three wickets. The target seemed to be too easy for the Dastur lads as they rattled up the required runs in just 27.1 overs. A steady start by openers Zoheb Farooqui (22) and Akshay Chavan (23) paved the way for the later batsmen to play a confident game.

Shreyas Hegde, Dastur's key player in other events as well, displayed excellent batting skills as he scored at a rapid pace, making 44 runs in just 30 balls.

Brief Scores
Choksey High School: 161 in 34.4 overs (Pratik Shah 48, Aatish Zulup 21, Nilesh Shah 20 n.o.; Niranjan Bhatt 5/24, Nilesh Solanki 3/35) lost to Dastur Boys High School: 164 for 3 in 27.1 overs (Shreyas Hegde 44 n.o, Vishal Gondhale 24 n.o., Akshay Chavan 23; Satish Avchare 1/9, Chintan Modi 1/29). Result: Dastur won by 7 wkts.

Agrasen HS win
Vivek Thombe stroked his way to a brilliant 57 runs and captured two wickets to help Agrasen High School defeat Janata High School by four wickets on the second day of the Inter-School cricket tournament organised by Agrasen HS at the Jail ground here today.

Agrasen HS won the toss and put Janata HS to bat first, restricting the latter to just 106 runs in 18 overs. Amit Gaikwad managed the highest score for Janata -- 66 runs. Chasing the small total Agrasen High School won the match after losing five wickets.

The second semi-final was won by Moze High School when they defeated SSPMS by three wickets.
