PUNE, Dec 1: R K Varma of Ammunition Factory, Khadki, began his campaign for the top spot in the open category with a one-sided 10-0 win over P Gawda of Ordnance Factory, Dehu Road in the 31st all-India Ordnance Factories tennis tournament at the Ordnance Club courts here today.Meanwhile, in the veterans section, Lt. A A Pednekar of AFK Naval Division had an easy time sailing into the second round, as his opponent S Raju of Medak conceded the match after being down 8-3.
Dr. U Kumar of AFK, OCRI overcame a stubborn challenge from S N Rawarti of Medak winning the encounter 10-4. The match witnessed one of the longest rallies on the opening day. The tournament has received a poor response in terms of entries, which barely reached 30.
