Teachers oppose health university at Nashik

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, December 2: A committee of health science teachers of the University of Mumbai may initiate protest moves against the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences at Nashik, including moving court.

At a press conference today, the committee, comprising around 45 members, said the health university went against the very premises of quality medical education and health care. The teachers, who have rejected the very idea of an `affiliating university' under which medical and paramedical educational institutions have been clubbed, pointed out that the experience of the states where such a system was tried out -- Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka -- had proved its inadequacies. Established medical colleges in these states had disaffiliated from such universities.
