HC reserves order on players' plea

NEW DELHI: The suspense over the clearance of the Indian kabaddi squad for the 13th Bangkok Asian Games continued with Delhi High Court reserving its judgment on the plea of the players and the dispute, regarding recognition-status of the kabaddi federation.

NEW DELHI: After kabaddi players, it was the turn of the boxers to knock the door of the court against the decision of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on the selection of the squad for the 13the Asian Games being held in Bangkok from December 6.

Hearing the plea of two boxers, challenging their absence from the squad for the Games, a Delhi court today issued show cause notices to the central government, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Suresh Kalmadi, secretary of the Services Control Board, Col Siddiqui, and president of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (AMBF) AK Matoo.

Tennis camp

CALCUTTA: The three-day conditioning camp forthe Bangkok-bound Indian tennis squad began at the South Club under coach Jaidip Mukherjea.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi were not being present at the camp. While Bhupathi is skipping the camp, Paes is in US, trying to get fit in time for the Asian Games.

The other members of the squad -- Prahlad Srinath, Syed Fazaluddin, Nitin Kirtane and Vijay Kannan -- had a three-hour workout.

NEW DELHI: Air-India (Mumbai) and Bharat Petroleum chalked out huge victories in the ninth Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament.

In other matches, Northern Railway and CRPF had to wage a grim battle before emerging victorious. Air-India beat Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) 6-1 while Bharat Petroleum thrashed Sikh Regiment Centre (SRC) 7-0.
