More than 1,400 women, from places as far as Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad, Dahod and Panchmahals, turned up at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday morning to collect application forms and appear for a physical test against a total vacancy of 20 women constables.

Police officials conducting the test said though they displayed good enthusiasm in physical test, most of them failed in the long and high jump. Only 69 of them managed to clear the test.

The written test for the successful candidates will be held on Wednesday.

According to the officials, the large turnout indicated the level of unemployment among women, as well as the will to work and become financially independent.
