Mistaken to be a dacoit, man lynched by mob

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CANNING (WEST BENGAL), Dec 3: A man who chased dacoits along with villagers got himself killed by an irate mob in a case of mistaken identity, police said today.

The man who came from Calcutta to a relative's place at Ronia Bazar area in north 24 Parganas district joined the villagers in the chase of a group of dacoits who were looting shops in the market last night.

The villagers caught hold of two of the dacoits and also did not spare the man who was unknown in the area. The mob severely beat the three killing the new-comer on the spot, police said. His identity was yet to be known.

The two dacoits were hospitalised along with two villagers who were injured by the dacoits. The other dacoits, however, managed to escape.
