Much significance is being attached to the ``full faith'' reposed by the district presidents ``in the historic and far-sighted leadership'' being provided by party President and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

A section within the party is advocating change in the party leadership, arguing the organisational affairs were not getting adequate attention with the two offices being held by one person. One of the options being discussed is appointing some senior leader as acting president.

The meeting convened to review the debacle in Adampur, was attended by the district presidents from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.

It is for the first time after the Akali Dal's coming into power in the state, that such an exercise has beenundertaken to express confidence in the leadership of Badal, both as party President as well as the Chief Minister.

The resolution passed at the meeting was all praise for Badal. The party rededicated itself to the service of the people of the state, as per the ``vision and direction being provided by Badal''.

While expressing deep satisfaction over the atmosphere of amity and Punjabi unity brought out through the ``unfaltering vision and persistent efforts'' of Badal, the district presidents lambasted the Congress for trying to create communal and urban-rural divide. Cautioning the people against this conspiracy, the Akali Dal reiterated the resolve to defeat it.

The defeat in Adampur was attributed mainly to the price rise and natural calamities. The effort was to dispel the impression that the victory reflected consolidation of support base of the Congress. The resolution said the Congress went in for unprincipled understanding with the CPI and CPI(M) in Adampur.

The Congress was also blamed forthe attack on Akal Takht and the anti-Sikh riots in November, 1984. It was decided to rejuvenate the party upto the village level. The circle level committees would be made fully functional within the next 15 days.

According to party spokesman Kirpal Singh Badungar, monthly workers meetings would be organised in each district which would be attended by the ministers, MLAs and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee members. This would redress the grievances of the workers who said they were being neglected. Badal himself would address some of these meetings.

The meeting felicitated the people for the impressive show put up at Anandpur Sahib on November 22 to mark the inauguration of tercentenary celebrations of the birth of the Khalsa.
