MUMBAI, DEC 3: Mumbai skipper Vinod Kambli has pulled out from the Duleep Trophy tournament in order to be fully fit before sterner tests ahead.``Vinod had requested that he shouldn't be considered for selection as he has to undergo a treatment course on his right ankle which includes physiotherapy and some exercises,'' revealed Prof Ratnakar Shetty, joint secretary, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), while speaking to The Indian Express this evening.
Kambli had made a comeback to first-class cricket with Mumbai's season opener against Gujarat after a long hiatus caused by the ankle injury he sustained in April. He had then played with an air-cast around the ankle and was guarded in taxing the injured foot.
Shetty, who is also the convenor of the West Zone selection committee, said the zonal selectors -- Ajit Wadekar (chairman-Mumbai), Vijay Shetty (Maharashtra), Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra), Bhagirath Thakur (Gujarat), CR Mohite (Vadodara) -- met here this morning to name the 15-member West Zonesquad.
Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed captain while Amol Muzumdar is the vice captain of the team which was released late this evening by the MCA. West Zone opens its campaign against East Zone at Valsad from December 9.
