SURAT, Dec 3: In the din of protest measures planned and subsequently not followed by political parties over the brutal killing of two school girls, whose bodies were found 65 kms away from the city, a silent protest by a handful students of a school went almost unnoticed.Four primary students -- Khushbu Shah, Bhargava Patel, Puja Patel and Darshan Patel of Jivan Jyot School in Amroli, along with Balmandir student Pinaki Shah -- observed a 12-hour fast a couple of days ago to express their feelings over the issue.
A memorandum was submitted on their behalf to the police commissioner, which said ``We are not located far from the school from where the girls were found missing, and subsequently killed.'' Already students are feeling insecure, if the killers are not arrested soon their apprehensions might increase further, it said.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday called off their agitation they had launched a couple of days ago over the police inaction in arresting the killers. Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya called on the fasting activists and assured them that the police would soon arrest the killers.
Pandya earlier went to the house of the two girls to console their families. Police Commissioner Maniram, who also accompanied the minister, assured the families that the killers would be arrested in less than a fortnight.
