Star children's debut music albums launched

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 3: Of the four, only two were present for the launch of their debut albums by Music Today. Nothing extraordinary about that, except for the fact that the four young artistes have followed the footsteps of their illustrious fathers who are all acclaimed Hindustani classical musicians.

The albums featuring the four heirs to musical lineage, dating back to six and in some cases seven generations, are Rahul Sharma (santoor) who inherits his skill over the santoor from his father Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma; Meeta Pandit (Hindustani vocal), daughter of Pt L.K. Pandit and grand daughter of the great Pt Krishnarao Shankar Pandit of the Gwalior Gharana; Amaan Ali Bangash (sarod), eldest son of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan; and Kaushiki Chakrabarty (Hindustani vocal), daughter and disciple of vocalist Ajoy Chakrabarty.

Aptly titled `Footsteps', the four debut albums are a part of the Music Today's new generation series for the promotion of young and new talent. As singer Subha Mudgal, who has given her consultation to the series, said, the series would also launch those disciples who, though not belonging to a well-known gharana, have had their grooming under various maestros. The launch at Art Today gallery at Connaught Place saw quite a distinguished gathering including the two chief guests of the occasion, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pt L.K. Pandit, Sunita `Rastrapati Bhavan interior decorator' Kohli, besides Rekha and Aroon Purie. While Panditji presented the album to Amaan Bangash, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan gave the album to Meeta Pandit, both of whom then spoke of the need for encouraging other young musicians who have not been fortunate enough to be born into a musician's family.
