Nicol, Power in World Open final
World No 1 Peter Nicol will clash with No 3 Jonathan Power in the final of the $ 1,75,000 Mahindra World Open squash championships, currently underway at Doha in Qatar. Nicol defeated Stefan Casteleyn of Belgium 15-8, 15-13, 15-7 while Powere powered past Australia's Anthony Hill 15-3, 13-15, 15-10, 15-8 in the semi-finals.

Kanitkar props India A
India A crawled to 162 for five at close of play on the first day of their second cricket `Test' against West Indies A at Chennai yesterday. The home team was propped up by a gritty, unbeaten 73 by skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who starred in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 70 with MSK Prasad.

Paes opts out of Asian games
India's chances of a tennis gold in the forthcoming Asian Games dimmed yesterday when Leander Paes announced his withdrawal from the event. Paes attributed his decision to a heel injury and expects to be back on the tennis circuit in time for next year's Australian Open.
