NEW DELHI, Dec 7: Maintaining that it was not against Foreign Direct Investment and limited disinvestment of PSUs, the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has said that it will not join the general strike called by the Left trade unions on December 11.Economic reforms were irreversible irrespective of the party in power, INTUC President G Sanjeeva Reddy said today. He pointed out that the Disinvestment Commission was set up during the United Front Government's time, when the CPI(M) was giving outside support to it.
INTUC will however observe December 11 as a ``protest day'' by wearing black badges and holding meetings.
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is also not joining the strike. Reddy said that INTUC would oppose retrenchment and sickness, he said, demanding that the Government should work out an unemployment benefit scheme for workers, till the time they find alternative employment.
