Students protest DU decision
Protesting against the Delhi University administration's decision not to hold classes during the winter break, hundreds of students demonstrated outside the DUTA office today and submitted a memorandum to the DUTA president. In an executive committee meeting held on November 30, DUSU had decided that regular classes would be held during the coming winter break, which was withdrawn later.Vyas Samman for Govind Mishra
The Vyas Samman -- instituted by the K.K. Birla foundation -- for 198 has been awarded to Govind Mishra, the author of Paanch Aangan Wala Ghar. The award of Rs 2.5 lakhs is given for outstanding work in Hindi literature published during the last ten years, and will be presented to Mishra by Union Home Minister L.K. Advani on December 20.
Ice games at Appu Ghar
Appu Ghar has now introduced Ice Games at O.Y.S.T.E.R.S., where four acres of the water park have been blanketed with ice for winter sports. These include sledding, skiing, ice boating -- where you can row through a river full of icebergs, and, bowling on ice.
Electricity supply to be affected

DDA engineers to go on mass leave
The engineers of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) have decided to go on mass casual leave on December 10 and also hold a demonstration at the DDA head office, Vikas Sadan, to press for their long pending demands. General Secretary of the DDA Engineers' Association Param Yadav said that their demands, including cadre review, had not been implemented despite assurances by the management nearly two years ago. The DDA engineers had resorted to a 20-day-long strike in March 1997 and withdrew it only after the authorities promised to implement them within six months.
