Personal Point case: Witness turns hostile

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 8: An MCD employee, one of the three prosecution witnesses in the Personal Point murder case, turned hostile in the court while submitting his statement. Sanjay Kumar had reportedly gone to collect tickets from a travel agency on behalf of Subhash Gupta in January 1996.

As an MCD employee, Kumar used to receive papers signed by Gupta. He was brought to the court to recognise Gupta's signatures. Kumar recognised Gupta, who was present in court, but refused to the recognise his signatures.

He also stated that Gupta had come to his office in January 1996, accompanied by a girl. ``He addressed her as Sujata and told her to hand over the money as well as the card of the travel agency,'' said Kumar. As it was lunch time, Kumar agreed to pick-up the tickets on Gupta's behalf.

Seema Shah, employed with Personal Point in June 1996, was among the other witnesses produced. Shah told the court that on June 6, 1996, Deepa Gupta had told her about the scheduled meeting between Dr Sunil Kaul and Subhash Gupta. ``Deepa Gupta and Sujata Shah were also expected to assist him,'' said Shah. They left the office once Kaul came back form Noida where he was shooting for his program.

All the three, according to Shah, left the office at around 6.30 p.m. They reportedly told her they would return by 8 p.m. ``On the morning of June 7, I had called Dr Shobha Kaul, who informed me that her husband was missing,'' stated Shah.
