MUMBAI, DEC 9: Income-tax officials on Wednesday raided three BSE brokers in connection with transactions of shares of Chennai-based Pentafour Software company. I-T sources said that the three brokers premises were searched and documents were verified as per the instructions from their Chennai office. Details of the investigation are yet to be known.It may be recalled on Tuesday, I-T officials made search operations in the premises of another BSE broker and a clearing house agent in connection with trading of shares of Mumbai-based Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries and confiscated evidence showing false claims of around Rs 10 crore.
Despite repeated attempts the top brass of the company could not be contacted. The market was also rife with rumours that three brokers based at Chennai, were raided who were alleged to be the front runners of the company circles.
However, a senior SEBI official explained that the investigations on the alleged insider trading case in Pentafour is an old case. "No freshinvestigations have been launched," he clarified.
The stock was hammered down from the day's high of Rs 537 to a low of Rs 495.55, with a phenomenal volume of over 84 lakh shares on the local bourses. It is learnt that the stock received major support at the crucial level of Rs 495. The raids after several punching errors have unnerved brokers.
