Mamata against Rs 1000 notes

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, DEC 9: Every day in Parliament underlines the disarray in the BJP-led coalition. And today was no exception. Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha's bid to reintroduce Rs 1,000 notes in the country promptly ran into trouble in the Lok Sabha with Trinamul Congress firebrand Mamata Banerjee joining the Opposition chorus to withdraw the proposal.

That was inside the House. Outside, the BJP continued to flip-flop on the Vananchal issue with eight of its MPs from south Bihar distancing themselves today from yesterday's resignation threat over the delay in the creation of the state.

Party sources conceded that the efforts to create the new states of Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chattisgarh had run into trouble despite repeated promises by Government ministers that the statehood bills would be tabled in Parliament.
