The BJP, however, termed the signing of the Parbati Project Agreement with National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) as `` historic '' which would largely benefit the state. The resolution, moved on behalf of the government by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, J.P. Nadda, thanking the Centre, especially the prime minister and the union power Minister, for the Parbati Hydel Power Project was finally passed by voice of vote. Earlier, the discussion on the resolution saw heated exchanges between the ruling and opposition benches, accusing each other of selling the interests of the state.

Nadda started the discussion on the issue by making a forceful presentation on behalf of the ruling party.

, former chief minister Virbhadra Singh termed as ``childish'' his claims of getting various projects cleared by the BJP-led government,in the last eight months.

Virbhadra Singh said that the state had not put in any share in the Parbati Project, which was considered as the biggest asset of the state. He said the agreement signed by their former government on the Nathpa Jhakri Hydel Power Project was an ideal one, as it had a 25 per cent state's share in it.

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ram Lal Thakur also said that the state could have made at least a token investment in order to have management control over the Parbati Project.

Opposing this, state Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumalsaid the Parbati Agreement with NHPC was an ideal one, the Nathpa Jhakri Project Agreement had short-comings which have now come to the fore.
