VADODARA, Dec 9: Distinguished cardiologists from different parts of the country and abroad participated in an interactive workshop on coronary intervention, first of its kind in the State, held at the Bhailal Amin General Hospital here on Wednesday.The Hospital Interventional Cardiologists Dr Suhas S Lele said in a press release that prominent speakers at the workshop, held with an aim to acquaint cardiologists with the latest scientific advances in the field, included Dr Michael Cowley from Medical College of Virginia, USA, Dr Ashok Seth from Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi.
Cowley presented a scientific paper on `Optimal Coronary Angioplasty' discussing the selection of device depending upon the size of the artery. He also spoke on the treatment options for multi-vessel coronary diseases, the release said.
Seth spoke on perentaneous transmyocardial laser revascularisation. ``Myocardial revascularisation has made a major impact on the treatment of coronary artery disease. Using continuous wave-laser energy, channels are created in a fraction of a second in the lining of membrane enclosing the heart and roots of blood vessels. The channels are created in the ventricular wall in the area of distribution of the blocked coronary artery,'' he said, adding that the primary objective of this treatment was to relieve heart pain, improve tolerance and provide better quality of life to patients.
