VADODARA, Dec 9: The Vadodara railway division authorities have deployed securitymen to stand guard on the foodgrains that come from various parts of the country to be unloaded at the railway yard of this division. The step follows an October report in Express Newsline, which highlighted the poor state at the yard, due allegedly to the misunderstandings between the Food Corporation of India and the divisional authorities.
The divisional authorities have employed people to clean up the yard regularly, sources said, adding that they had also provided sufficient tarpulin sheets to protect grains from the elements. So long, grains used to be unloaded at the yard though it was dirty and frequented by stray animals.
Officials said the authorities had now also arranged to keep the stock room at the yard locked. After the grains are cleaned by the railway employees, they are supplied to wholesale stores.
With the adoption of these measures, the grain is supposed to be unloaded only after the tarpulin sheets are spread out and in the presence of FCI officials.
