Goodwill Sports Club win 1-0

PUNE, Dec 9: Goodwill Sports Club defeated Chikalwadi Young Boys's by while Joseph's Pride `B' drew Vandemataram in MHA junior league at the polygras stadium today.

Returning to the league after three years, Chikalwadi Young Boy's exhibited their trademark aggression as players from both teams earned yellow and green cards.

Vishwa Pillay of Chikalwadi received two yellow cards in the regular play. The only goal came for Goodwill was scored via penalty stroke. In the 24th minute of the first half Rocky Anthony's hit toward the goal-post was wrongly stopped by defender Rajesh Nikalje for which John Anthony awarded a penalty stroke and Sikandar Jaffer netted for Goodwill.

Goodwill's Feroz Shaikh was sent out when he blocked Rajesh Nikalje by a hard tackle after which Rajesh charged him and was sent off himself with Taslim Shaikh. Thus Goodwill won 1-0.

The match between Joseph's Pride `B' and Vandemataram was speedy and skillful. Both the teams played an attacking game throughout as they had a strong forward line. In the 15th minute of the first half centre-forward Rauf Shaikh put Joseph's Pride in the lead.

Shekar Pillay made a long run on the left-flank and sent a fine cross pass Rauf received neatly to sound the board. After changing ends Vandemataram changed their strategy and played defensive and got a goal in the 40th minute.

The equaliser for Vandemataram came by right-in Hari Pandit through a penalty corner conversion. Joseph's Pride had four penalties while Vandemataram got seven but could only convert one.

Later, VOBA scored an easy 3-0 win over Wadia XI. Clement D'Souza, Sarvesh Mutha and Manik Taneja added one goal each.

Goodwill Sports Club: 1 (Sikandar Jaffer) bt Chikalwadi Young Boy's: 0; Joseph's Pride `B': 1 (Rauf Shaikh) drew Vandemataram Sports Club: 1 (Hari Pandit)1; VOBA: 3 (Clement D'Souza, Manik Taneja and Sarvesh Mutha 1 each) bt Wadia XI 0.

Friday's fixtures: Goodwill Sports Club v/s PCMC 1:45pm; Champion Sports v/s Sapers Line Bazaar 3pm; Priyadarshini Sports Centre `B' v/s Wadia XI 4:15pm.
