Fire at Nagpur Vidhan Bhavan

NAGPUR, DEC 12: The Vidhan Bhavan building today caught fire destroying property worth Rs 50,000. The fire, caused due to short circuit, destroyed room wooden furniture, carpets, and records in room Numbers 12 and 13 belonging to Legislature secretary Ramesh Kamoli, a fire brigade source said. However, there were no casualties.A constable posted in the Vidhan Bhavan premises saw the smoke emitting from the two rooms. He alerted the fire brigade authorities at about 1510 hrs and six tenders were immediately rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control in half-an-hour, sources said. Since it was a holiday, there were no employees in the building and in the vicinity. The fire would, however, have no bearing on the Legislature beginning on Monday, official sources said. Janata Dal's Vyankappa Patki, urged Chief Minister Manohar Joshi to order an inquiry into the incident which came barely two days before the commencement of the winter session.
