MUMBAI, DEC 12: On the occasion of his 50th birthday, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde has drafted an ambitious Rs 1,000 crore plan to supply uninterrupted power supply to industries located in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and improve the distribution network in 15 districts.``Since an estimated 700 MW electricity from the Enron's Dabhol Power Company will be available from January, it should not be difficult for the alliance government to meet the target,'' Munde told mediapersons.Munde, who also holds the Energy portfolio, said distribution system for Thane, Raigad, Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Nasik, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Nanded, Beed, Parbhani, Nagpur, Bhandara, Akola and Amravati will be improved under the plan.
On the availability of funds for the project, Munde said, since the bonds floated by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) were oversubscribed, the board was able to allocate Rs 500 for the distribution programme. For the remaining Rs 500 crore, the boardwill approach the urban cooperative and district central cooperative banks.
``By and large, the district level banks have agreed to finance the project, provided the loan extended by them is utilised for the district suggested by the financial institution,'' the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Elaborating his contention, Munde said cooperative banks in Nagpur, Raigad and Jalgaon have agreed to finance to the extend of Rs 100 crore each for the purpose. ``In principle, we have agreed to their suggestion. If the loan scheme works out, we will spend the entire amount on the district recommended by the bank,'' Munde added.
On the repayment of loan, Munde said it should not be difficult to repay the amount, since it is a long term loan. ``With the improvement in power supply, we feel that the resource position of MSEB will improve,'' he added.
