WARDHA, DEC 12: In a landmark judgement, District Consumers Grievances' Redressal Forum has directed the owner of local Barudwale Borewells to pay a compensation of Rs 1,000 to a farmer, for lapses in service. In addition, the company should either set the borewell right or pay the cost of it (Rs 18,000) to the farmer, along with interest incurred at a rate of 12 per cent, the verdict said.According to prosecution, local farmer Prashant Manoharrao Bombatkar entered into an agreement with Prakash Barudwale of Barudwale Borewells here for digging a borewell at his farm, located at village Kharangana (Gode) in the district, for a total consideration of Rs 18,000. The company completed the work in the stipulated time as desired and suggested Bombatkar for installation of pumpset on the borewell for lifting of water. Accordingly, the borewell owner installed the pumpset promptly. However, it failed to lift water, Bombatkar alleged.
He lodged a number of complaints with the borewell company in this regard. However, the company turned a Nelson's eye towards the complaints and did nothing to put things in order, he alleged.
Bombatkar then called an expert for borewell inspection. In the expert's opinion, the boring was not done properly by the company. The pumpset pipe was getting clogged with mud because of the large size of pores in the casing pipe, the expert opined. On this basis, Bombatkar lodged a complaint with the District Consumers Grievances Redressal Forum. Convinced with the pleas of the complainant, the forum directed the borewell company to pay compensation of Rs 1,000 to the petitioner within a month. Advocate V G Deoghare appeared for Bombatkar.
