Father to get his son's body; Govt clears dues
Amit Sharma
LUCKNOW, DEC 12: The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute here, which refused to hand over the body of a man's son until dues worth Rs 65,000 were paid, today agreed to release it.Since November 30, Mithoo Singh knocked on all possible doors to get financial help to pay the dues after the hospital refused to release his son's body. The hospital authorities today sent a telegram to Mithoo's Bijnore home, saying they were now ready to hand over the body. Till late evening, they had not heard from him. The issue has embarrassed the PGI which drew condemnation from NGOs and from political parties after The Indian Express highlighted the case. Aid came from the discretionary fund of CM Kalyan Singh. ``It is highhandness on the part of the government officials that the CM had agreed to release the fund required for clearance of dues at the PGI on December 8 but orders to this effect came as late as today,'' said BJP legislator B P Singh, who helped Mithoo meet the CM.
