Golfers Disappoint

 
BANGKOK, DEC 13: A disjointed performance by the golfers shattered India's hopes for medals as they finished fourth and fifth in the men and women's team events respectively today. Japan won the men's individual and team gold medal.

The Philippines with 866 points took the silver and Chinese Taipei earned the bronze with 872 points.

In the men's section, Harmeet Kahlon carded a disappointing four-over par 76 to total 295 (72, 69, 78, 76) to finish way down at the joint tenth slot. Digvijay Singh returned par-72 round for an aggregate of 292 (75, 71, 74, 72) and ended at sixth place. Digvijay shot two birdies and an equal number of bogeys in his last round of 72. Kahlon had another dismal round in which he could sink only on the third but shot five bogeys. Veteran Amit Luthra continued with his bad form and shot four-over 76 for an aggreagate of ten-over 298 (74, 74, 74, 76) and ended at joint 17th position. Amit Dube also had a two-over 74 last round and with 18-over 306 (77, 81, 74, 74) was placed atlowly joint 31st. For the team's total the scores of Harmeet Kahlon (295), Amit Luthra (298) and Digvijay Singh (292) were counted and India landed at the fourth spot.

In the women's section, Parnita Garewal shot five-over par 77 to total 305 (77, 75, 76, 77) and finished 11th. In her last round Parnita had two birdies and seven bogeys and was placed joint 11th. Her team-mate Nonita Lal Qureshi shot the second successive one-over 73. She totalled 19-over 307 to end at the 13th place. Urvashi Sethi had another terrible round of 9-over 81 and she totalled 329 (83, 83, 82, 81) for a lowly 20th slot.
