Marksmen, so far, right on target

 
BANGKOK, DEC 13: Indian archers performed well in the 90 and 70 metres to move beyond the elimination round today.

In the 90 metres, Mangal Singh shot 267 out of a maximum 360 to be placed 15th, Satyadev Prasad hit 262 for the 19th position, veteran Skaljang Dorji shot 255 for the 22nd position and Rajesh Hasdak scored 234.

South Korea's Han Seung Hoon led the field of 43 archers in the category with a total of 300, followed by Zhao Faqiao (China) 289 and Kim Kyung Ho of South Korea (288).

In the 70-metre event, Mangal Singh shot 305 and slipped to the 18th position with a total of 572 (267 in 90 m, 305 in 70 m).

Prasad hit 302 and was at 23rd place with an aggregate of 564 (262, 302). Skaljang Dorji shot 303 for a total of 558 (255, 303), to be at the 27th position.

Hasdak was last but one to qualify with 300 to total 534 (234, 300).

In 70 metres also, Korea's Han Seung-Hoon led the field with a total of 637 (300, 337). In 90 metres, Meerut-based Mangal hit the golden eye thrice, and had eightnine-pointers. Prasad hit the gold (maximum 10 points) four times, and had eight nine pointers. He missed his target on the 12th.

Skaljang hit three 10 pointers and five nine pointers in the round of 36 arrows. He missed his shot on the 30th attempt. Hasdak hit only three 10 pointers and four nine pointers.

In 70 metres, Mangal hit six 10 pointers and 10 nine pointers, Prasad (three and 13), Skaljang (two and 17) and Hasdak (two and nine). Skaljang missed his first two attempts while Hasdak, who just managed to qualify for the next round, missed on the seventh.
