Lawyer saves woman's life

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Dec 13: This was a legal aid of a different kind. An advocate showed that he was game for out of court adventure too when he saved the life of a young woman, who was all for killing herself.

It so happened that the woman, driven by some unknown compulsion, jumped into the Tapi on Saturday afternoon in full view of the public on the Sardar Bridge -- the tallest of the bridges in Surat bringing the heavy traffic to a standstill.

While others wondered whether the woman would ever come up, the advocate without wasting much time jumped after her. Though the woman was bent on drowning, Bharat Patel ensured that she was rescued. By the time, the fire brigade reached to attend the call, Patel had done his job.

The woman was discharged after giving preliminary treatment at the New Civil Hospital, but was able to guard her identity. There was no police complaint either.
