SURAT, Dec 13: A team of district Civil Supplies department detected a number of irregularities during a raid at a dealer of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation in Rustampura.District Supplies Officer K D Chandnani, who led the team, said there were discrepancies in stock and booking numbers were not in order. Besides the dealer, Gas Appliances Company, was not following the instructions given by the department. Gas bottles worth Rs 13,500 were seized from the dealer.
In another raid, the civil supplies officials seized 1,000 litre petrol worth Rs 27,510 during a raid at Mahashakti Petroleum in Bajipura village of Valod taluka of Surat district. Books of accounts were not maintained properly and there were variations in stock.
Paddy worth Rs 7,000 was seized in another raid at the office of M/s Thakorbhai Keshavbhai Rana, a wholesaler operating in Vyara taluka's market yard. Physical verification of stock revealed paddy weighing more than 1400 kg.
Kerosene worth Rs 16,200 was seized from Shri Ambika Oil Centre, owned by Ratilal Bhagwandas Navsariwala in Khapiwala tekra. The raiding party learnt that kerosene was being sold to rickshaw drivers for mixing with petrol. A total 1,800 litre kerosene was seized during the raid.
