MUMBAI, December 16: The All-India Chess Federation for Blind (AICFB), which was formed in 1997, held a seminar-cum coaching camp for blind chess players for four days from December 13 to 16 at Andheri Complex.During the seminar, the AICFB also released a book exclusive for blind chess players which is named First Move. The book, released by Mumbai Mayor Nandu Satam, contained a message from Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay.
Thipsay, IM Arun Vaidya and other prominent players from Mumbai have also contributed to the book edited by Charudatta Jadhav.
Nearly 45 players from nine states participated in the event with Raghunandan Gokhale and Sajandas Joshi coaching the players.
In the seminar, the AICFB also made a few decisions which included organising zonal tournaments in the opening two months of the year. The top 20 players from each zonal tournament will be given entry into the National B Championships. Tamil Nadu and Haryana have already agreed to hosting the zonal tournament for nextyear.
Fourteen players from the national championships will qualify for the National A for the blind.
The AICFB, which held its first national tournament in April in Mumbai, has seven states seeking affiliation. The seven are Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Haryana and New Delhi.
