EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 16:Several former cricketers of the country today came out strongly in support of health awareness among people by narrating their personal experiences. Chetan Chauhan, Kirti Azad, Surender Khanna, Maninder Singh and Chetan Sharma spoke of the need ``to adopt correct lifestyles for a happy and healthy life.''

The prominent cricketers have been roped in by the Heart Care Foundation of India to spread the message of health awareness on the eve of the fifth Perfect Health Mela, beginning at the Archery grounds of the Nehru Stadium from tomorrow. The mela continues till December 28.

Kirti Azad, who has been an active member of the foundation since the inaugural mela five years ago, had given up chewing `Pan Parag' some time ago after a session with the doctor. He stressed the importance of the ``healthy thought for a healthy mind and a healthy body.'' He also emphasised the need for well-to-do people taking the onus of adopting a family to provide better nutrition to the needy.

Chetan Chauhan said: ``If you are healthy, you are happy.''Maninder Singh sought the help of the media to give wide publicity to the health mela so that the message reaches every nook and corner of the country. The 10-day health mela, to focus on ``motherhood and women's health,'' will be inaugurated by Delhi Health Minister A K Walia at 11.30 am on Friday.Over 10,000 persons including doctors, sports and film personalities and writers will march from Air Force Bal Bharati School (Lodi Road) to the Mela venue at 10 am on Friday in a unique walkathon -- Walk for Health to convey the message of regular exercise and walking, so essential for health.Over 300 stalls will cater to the health needs of the people in the Mela and nearly two million people are expected to visit the carnival, according to Dr K K Aggarwal.
