BMS opposes entry of MNCs in Gujarat

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Dec 18: Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) will not allow the entry of any multinationals in Gujarat as a result of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed at the recently concluded Intechmart '98 in the city.

BMS State secretary, Deepak Pandya, making his organisation's national policy clear said it was opposed to anti-labour policies of any government irrespective of the party in power. Ours is not an organisation affiliated to any political party, but is wedded to the swadeshi ideology, he said.

Referring to recent reports projecting BMS as being opposed to the BJP government, he said it was not a new thing to happen. ``We had opposed the anti-labour policies of the first BJP government under Keshubhai Patel in 1995 when he was away on tour and Ashok Bhatt was caretaker chief minister. We had taken a 10,000-strong rally at that time to register our protest,'' he reminded.

He does not agree that BMS, despite being a Sangh Parivar outfit, was agitating against a sister organisation like the BJP.He said it was all in the family and when the time came to support the party, BMS would stand behind it. He said a district level convention would be held in Ahmedabad on Sunday when around 300 volunteers would meet to pass resolutions opposing entry of MNCs, against profession tax and against delay in workers' cases pending for long with the government.

Pandya said the BMS would concentrate on organising anganwadi workers and the workers in the unorganised sector to create a new force to reckon with. He said the national executive meeting of the BMS was due to be held at Nagpur on February 15, 16 and 17 where policy guidelines would be formulated for its state units.
