HC sets food and drinks deadline
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, DEC 18: A piece of good news for liquor lovers: you will now have an hour more to nurse your drinks in pubs and bars. The High Court, hearing a petition filed by a bar owner, has clarified that though the deadlines for serving drinks and food (11.30 pm and 12.30 am respectively) must be adhered to, these do not constitute the time to close the said establishments. The Court has directed that customers be allowed an hour's time to consume the orders placed before the deadline. While this effectively means drinks can now be enjoyed till 12.30 am, deadline for finishing your food would be 1.30 am.The petition filed by Karishma Karishma Bar and Restaurant had sought to clear the confusion over the deadlines, caused by a government circular which while reiterating the time limits of accepting the last order for drinks and food, also said that the deadlines should not be enforced ``in such a manner as to cause inconvenience to the customers.'' Justice B N Srikrishna heard the petition. He said it wasunnecessary to admit the plea and keep it pending for final ruling. The judge said the government circular should be interpreted and implemented reasonably. The judge said it was logical to give a margin of one hour for a customer to finish his drink or food after the last order was accepted. ``But police and other enforcement authorities should ensure no sale of liquor and food is allowed after the respective deadlines,'' he said.
