Director General of Police P.C.Dogra disclosed today that in the last 18 months, the department had been equipped with an array of security equipments, communication network and computer sets in view of the long term needs.

No longer the files would take months to move from the districts to the headquaters. In no time the matters requiring decision by the higher authorities would reach them at the state police headquarters giving an impetus to the functioning of the department. Even the Punjab Armed Police and Indian Reserved Battalions have been provided with computer conectivity with the state headquaters.

Dogra disclosed that the modem-based connectivity provided the department with the capability sending and receiving information from any part of the world. Once the government of India provided transponders on the communication satellites, the system could be integrated with the Polnet carrying international information on criminals.

The department has also installed photo visitor card systems with CCD camera at the Chief Minister's residence and office besides, the police headquarters. Through this system visitor's picture is stamped automatically with his particulars on the gate pass providing greater security.

As many as 14 explosive detection and handling squads have been raised and strategically located at each range headquaters. Two squads are with the government railway police and three with the CM's security set up.

Dogra said that 1000 hightech kenwood mobile wireless sets in the VHF range had been inducted in the department for effective communication, besides 320 challenger sets.In the long-term perspective, the police plans to link police station with network and also provide radio - modem based communiction.
