CHANDIGARH, Dec 18: The MCM DAV College eves were crowned the Panjab University Inter-College hockey champions after brushing aside Government College for Girls, Sector 42 5-0 in their final encounter here today.Finishing third behind GCG-42 were Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana who pipped Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd for the play-off match by a solitary goal.
The MCM forwards combined well to put GCG-42 under pressure. On the other hand, the inability of the GCG-42 girls to put their names on the scoreline had as much to do with their lack of coordination as to the tight MCM defence.
MCM took lead in the 20th minute through Prabhjot. Spurred by this, Bharti struck twice in quick succession (23rd and 26th minutes) to help her side gain the upper hand. After a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time, Bahita scored MCM's fourth goal in the 38th minute while Harpreet's goal in the 42nd minute completed a whitewash for MCM DAV College.
