CHENNAI, DEC 22: The protest by Shiva Sena over the screening of the film Fire, which was hitherto confined to Mumbai and Delhi, had its echo here with the Tamil Nadu unit of the party today announcing that it would prevent screening of the film in the city and hold an agitation. The party's State general secretary, S Thenmaravan, told reporters here that it would give the Tamil Nadu government a week's time to get the film, being shown in a city theatre, stopped from being screened. The Shiva Sainiks would prevent its screening if the government failed to stop the screening, he said.
The film was per se ``anti-hindu'' as some of the scenes, which had no relevance to the theme, hurt Hindu sentiments. Asked why Sena could not take legal steps, Thenmaravan said in India not everything could be done using the legal channel. He said the film was an ``outside conspiracy'' to spoil the Indian culture.
