Patna, Dec 22: The mortal remains of CPI-ML general secretary Vinod Mishra were cremated today as thousands of party cadres from Bihar and other states bade a tearful farewell to the legendary leader. His body wrapped in red flag was cremated at the electric crematorium at Bansghat after the holding of a pledge meeting by CPI-ML activists.
As a band accompanying the funeral procession played ``communist international'', slogans of `Vinod Mishra amar rahe' (long live Vinod Mishra) rent the air.
Former Union minister and senior CPI leader Chaturanan Mishra and former deputy prime minister of Nepal, Madhav Nepal, were among those who addressed the pledge meeting.
Mishra, who died of a massive heart attack in Lucknow on December 19, spearheaded a massive movement for marginal farmers and landless labourers and it was under his stewardship that the CPI-ML came overground and joined the electoral mainstream.
