SURAT, Dec 22: Police officials investigating the sensational Nitaben Satbhaya murder case were tight-lipped about the progress of the probe on Tuesday, three days after the councillor was killed in broad daylight by yet-unidentified assailants.Meanwhile, a rally organised by the Kadwa Patidar Samaj -- of which Satbhaya was a member -- turned violent, when the rallyists, mostly women, stoned the Collectorate on discovering that Collector R M Shah was not in town.
On the investigation front, it came to be known that Inspector-General of Police H R Gehlot and other senior officials deputed by the State government to probe the case, had been briefed on the developments by the local officers.
``The police have been handed over a file containing all the complaints Satbhaya made, but its details cannot be divulged at the moment'', Detection of Crime Branch inspector M G Kaneriya told Express Newsline. He also refused to state if anyone had been detained for interrogation, maintaining that he could say nothing on the case.
Sources, however, said senior investigating officials checked out Kosad, where the Gujarat Housing Board has built a colony. Officials had earlier stated that they were in possession of written complaints of irregularities in its construction.
Interestingly enough, the DCB, which has been handed charge of the case, was also responsible for the bandobast at the Kadwa Patidar Samaj rally on Tuesday afternoon. They, however, could not control the crowd on a couple of occasions, once at the Collectorate and once in the Chowk area.
