VADODARA, Dec 22: After residents of Alkapuri, it was ruling BJP councillor Kiran Gurjar's turn to bear the brunt of water contamination along with people residing along the Pratap Road in Raopura. And once again, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has gone in for a cosmetic solution.According to deputy engineer of Raopura ward I D Patel, sewage water mixing with drinking water had resulted in water contamination. A total 20 families had to put up with contaminated water for about 10 to 15 days and only since the past three days they are getting clean drinking water.
Says Gurjar, ``We used to let the water flow for some time before taking it for use.''
Patel says while the rusted pipeline has been repaired temporarily, a permanent solution needs to be worked out. According to him, making two manholes in the drainage line to give direct drainage connections would solve the problem once and for all.
He warns that the problem could erupt again, if a permanent solution was not adopted.
According to Patel, about 30-old connections on the Road have been laid in such a manner that it becomes difficult to detect the fault.
Gurjar, claims that the ward office took time to detect the fault, and the problem could be corrected only when water works department officers assisted the VMC in their work. Gurjar, however, claimed that he would allocate certain amount from his quota to bring about a permanent solution.
