NEW DELHI, December 22: ASC came back strongly from a two-goal deficit to defeat Indo Tibet Border Police 4-3 in their 19th Servo Sanjay Gandhi hockey tournament match at National Stadium here today. In another match, EME came from behind (1-3) to draw level with Food Corporation of India. In a match played at a brisk pace, ITBP stunned ASC with two field goals inside two minutes. Mahipal Singh scored both the goals for ITBP in the 14th and 15th minutes. ASC, however, pulled one back in the first half itself when Ganapathy scored in the 23rd minute.
Continuing the trend, ASC played with renewed vigor and threatened the rival defence with several raids. But the moves did not help them as much as the forwards found it difficult to finish. However, in the 50th minute ASC drew parity off their second penalty corner when Sukkain sounded the board.
This goal brought quite a bit of cheers in the ASC camp and they mounted pressure on ITBP. They immediately consolidated their position with a goal in the 56th minute to go up 3-2. Sukkain accounted for the goal capitalising on a cross from right.
For the next 10 minutes the game went on the expected lines with ITBP making goal-bearing moves. In the 56th minute they earned a penalty corner, their first, and it was put to account by Raman Kumar. Even as they were celebrating their equaliser, Ganapathy found the target once again to seal the fate of ITBP.
