Joseph's Pride suffer second defeat

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Dec 22: Joseph'S Pride `A' suffered their second successive loss of the season as they went down to Priyadarshini Sports Centre `A' 2-6 in the Pool-B, senior division encounter in the MHA hockey league at PCMC Poligras Stadium, Nehrunagar, here today.

With no better game then what they played yesterday against Poona City Police, Joseph's Pride jumbled their chances with miss passes and slow movements by the forward line.

On the other hand, PSC with a bag full of experience, used this match as more of a practice than taking it a serious one, for the preparation of the big challenges forthcoming. They played safe and waited for the opportunities to knock their door, after gaining a 2-0 lead in the early part of the game.

PSC gained a 2-0 advantage with the 16th minute of play, and even before Joseph's defence could organise themselves again, PSC piled one more in the gap of two minutes. First, it was Sanjay Pollaya opening the account for PSC in the 14th minute, through a pass from centre-half Ravi Thayagrajan. Two minute later left-in Chinmay Korad sounded the board for the second goal through a fine deflection. The heat had hardly lowed over the Joseph's defence, when left-in Rakesh Pollaya, brother of Sanjay, added another one with a quick solo effort.

Joseph's boys tried hard to find the goal but the PSC defence line led by Garware brothers Sailas and Amol were quick to mark the rival's forwards.

However, minute before the first half, Joseph's celebrated the scoring joy when centre-forward Ram Krishna Marre with his fine stick work dribbled past the Gaware brothers and neatly pushed the ball in PSC net.

After the lemon break, PSC again raided the opponents defence this time from the right. In the 34th minute, right-out Rahul Sonawane penetrated into the danger area and gave an easy pass to right-in Sachin Pawar, who found no difficulty in tapping it. However, Joseph's Pride, a combination of youth, gave their best as they could. After almost 12-minutes of mid-field exchanges, Rajiv Choudhary reduced the margin 4-2. Though, it was not enough to stop the well-organised PSC side.

PSC taking the advantage of the weak Joseph's defence attacked in the last minutes of the game, and gained success too, with Rakesh scoring the last two goals.

Earlier, in the junior division, 512 Army Base Work-shop earned an easy 7-1 win over the new comers, Seven Star. Centre-forward Ravi Rawat scored three goals with Ashok Uttekar two, while left-in and left-out Dattu Pangellu and Prem Kumar added one each. Shubhash Mohole scored the consolation goal for Seven Star.

Today's Fixtures: Juniors: Champion Sports Club v PCMC 1:45pm. Seniors: OBA v AFK Combine 3:pm; Rural Police v BEG Kirkee 4:15pm.
