SURAT, Dec 27: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested three boys on charges of house-breaking and decamping with goods worth more than Rs 10,000 a couple of months ago. All three are children of policemen residing at the Althan Police lines in the city.The three, Vasant Chaudhary (14), Rajesh Patel (16) and Santosh alias Sonu Mukund Bihari (14) were presented before a juvenile court magistrate on Sunday, who remanded them to custody until December 29.
According to details, the three broke into the locked house of one Jaisingh Kalu Valvai and decamped with silver ornaments, household goods and other items between September 14 and October 20.
The police also arrested Purshottam Dodiya, a scrap dealer residing at Siddhi Sheri, Bhatar to whom the three boys sold off a number of items that they had stolen from the house in the area. Among the items stolen by the three include silver ornaments, aluminium and steel vessels, audio cassettes, a kitchen mixer and three watches. Twenty-five cassettes, a couple of aluminium tins and a clock were recovered from their possession. The boys sold the stolen goods and spent the money, DCB PSI Parmar said.
According to Parmar, Santosh's father was a wireless operator in the police force, Rajesh's mother a woman constable attached to the Umra police station and the Vasant's father was posted as an armed constable in the HQ. The police hope to recover more stolen goods during their remand period, PI M G Kaneriya of the DCB said on Sunday evening.
