JALANDHAR, DEC 28: Bengal boys and girls won titles in the 60th National Junior and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships here today.In the boys' team championship final played here today, Bengal upset last year's winners, the Petroleum Sports Control Board (PSCB) Academy 3-1.
PSCBA's international player Soumyadeep Roy could do little against the Bengal onslaught as he lost both his matches. Their only consolation was when the young Anal Kashyap defeated Bengal's fancied Subhajit Saha in a nail-biting three-setter to make the scoreline 3-1 in favour of Bengal.
In the girls' team championship finals Bengal, with two internationals, P Ghatak and Mouma Das in their ranks, had no difficulty in blanking Assam 3-0 to take the title.
The only resistance they faced was shown by a Sanjukta Gogoi, who stretched Susmita Roy (Bengal) to three games (17-21, 21-14, 21-18.
Results: Boys team championship (final): Bengal bt PSCBA 3-1 (Subham Choudhary bt Soumyadeep Roy 12-21, 21-16, 23-21, Subhajit Sahalost to Anal Kashyap 21-19, 15-21, 18-21, Ranbir Das bt Subhajit Sha 21-11, 21-17, Subhajit Saha bt Soumyadeep Roy 21-19, 18-21, 21-16.
Girls' team championship (final): Bengal bt Assam 3-0 (Poloumi Ghatak bt Mrigankhi Bordoi 21-12, 21-5 Mouma Das bt Jonali Handique 21-19, 21-17 Susmita Roy bt Sanjukta Gogoi 17-21, 21-14, 21-18.
