WR, BSF in title clash

NEW DELHI: Western Railway (Mumbai) staged a dramatic rally after being down 0-2 till the half time to stroke out Punjab and Sind Bank Academy, 6-5, via tie breaker in the semi-final of the 19th Servo Sanjay Gandhi Hockey Tournament here on Monday.

In the other semi-final, Shinu Herenz scored a fine hatrick to enable Border Security Force (BSF) score a facile 6-1 win over Army Signal Corp (ASC) and set up a title clash with Western Railway on Tuesday.

Orissa in QF

CHINSURAH (HOOGHLY): Orissa entered the quarterfinals of the 47th Senior National Volleyball Championship here on Monday for the second time defeating a fighting Manipur, 3-1, in their last Group D engagement.With the 15-6, 12-15, 15-5, 15-5, Orissa now take on either Kerala or Punjab in the quarterfinals.

In the women's event, last year's runners up West Bengal, which already reserved their berth in the last eight, finished top of the Group B league crushing Madhya Pradesh in straight 15-4, 15-10,15-0.

Other results

Men Group D: Jammu & Kashmir bt Arunachal Pradesh 15-7, 15-7, 15-0.Women Group C: Chandigarh bt Gujarat 15-5, 15-5, 15-4.

Victorious return

MUMBAI: Team JK Tyres' Akbar Ebrahim and Gurunath Meyappan triumphed in the Formula Maruti category at the JK Tyre International race in the Kings Lager Motor Races and Mini-Grand Prix in Sri Lanka recently.

Akbar also finished first in the Formula Ford category. The other members included SP Raman, Parthiv Suresh, Gautam Mani, Harish Samtani, Vikram Murthy, PD Satyanarayana, Uday Eswaran and Radha Selvaraj.

Chadda dead

HYDERABAD: Sriram Chadda, former secretary of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and life vice-president of International Badminton Federation (IBF) passed away at his native place in Jabalpur, Sunday night. He was 74.He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. Chaddha had been suffering from parkinson's disease for the last six months.

Natl wrestling

NASHIK: Wrestlers NavnathGhule, Kaka Pawar of Maharashtra, Krupashankar (Railway), Raju Tomar of Delhi, Jogindar of Haryana and Ashok Kumar of Uttar Pradesh reached the semifinal round in the free style and Greeko Roman type on the second day of the 45th National Mahapour Karandak Wrestling Championship on Sunday.

In the ladies section, Maharashtra's, Soulochana Kapi and Dhaneshwari were defeated.
