SURAT, Dec 28: City Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma, in a directive issued to the traffic branch, has stated that luxury buses plying without stage carriage permit should not be allowed to operate in the city from January 1.The traffic police have also been directed to remove all unauthorised shops at the congested Bhagal junction on Rajmarg. These directions were issued at the monthly Road Safety Council meeting held at the commissionerate on Monday.
Asking the traffic department to implement the orders strictly, the commissioner also stated that all school autorickshaws should fit grills on the vehicle's right side to minimise mishaps. This was Sharma's first council meeting after taking charge as the police chief.
Chairing the meeting, he stated that most luxury buses entering the city were travelling without authority. Reiterating that buses without the stage carriage permit should not be allowed into the city limits, he said the traffic police should start intensive checking of buses for carrying these permits was mandatory.
Specifically asking Mahidharpura police station officials to take action against vegetable vendors, who occupy a major portion of the main road at the Galemandi vegetable market off Bhagal, he warned that action would be taken the police officials concerned if the unauthorised vendors were not removed from the road. DCP (traffic) Gunwant Rao has been asked to oversee the vendors' removal from the Bhagal junction.
The commissioner also directed officials of the traffic branch to ensure that all school autorickshaws follow the guidelines prescribed with immediate effect. A sustained drive against erring autorickshaw drivers, specifically those carrying school children is to be taken up from January 1.
Among other directions, the commissioner asked the police officials to remove air horns from ST buses with immediate effect, and removal of illegally parked tankers between ONGC and Reliance gates at Hazira. The Ichhapore police have been asked to look into the matter.
Among others, Regional Transport Officer K M Patel, ACP C J Rathod, executive engineer A B Patel, Nitin Vaidya from the SMC and other officials attended the meeting.
